⚠️ According to the CDC 25% of all people over the age of 65 will slip and fall 👎 this winter. Here are a few tips to stay safe: ❄️ 1.) Wear footwear with good tread or wear traction devices on your shoes. ❄️ 2.) Be sure to keep your walkway clear of snow and ice. Ensure proper lighting of your walkways as well. ❄️ 3.) Slow down and focus on where you are walking. Many falls can be caused by being distracted or moving too quickly. ❄️ 4.) Use ski poles or other devices for added stability. ❄️ 5.) Stay active! Research shows consistently working on strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance can reduce your risk for falls! ✅ Our wonderful administrative assistant Sandy demonstrates two exercises for balance. The first exercise is single leg stance (progress to 30-60 seconds) and the second exercise is kicking into hip abduction (2-3 sets of 10). Completing the exercises in a corner provides a safe environment to practice at home. * * * * * #BEFitPhysicalTherapy #BEFitBEWell #ChoosePT #UpperValleyPT #UpperValleyVTNH #UpperValley #MyDailyUV #DailyUV #HanoverNH #WhiteRiverJunctionVT #WinterIsComing #StaySafe #FallPrevention
